The island, a few hundred miles out from the shores of Lordaeron and Quel'thalas, drifted out in the aftermath of the Cataclysm. It is home to many Wildhammer Dwarves who have inhabited it for centuries after the War of the Three Hammers. Its name, Valley of Silver (Duban Kibil), refers to the Dwarves' discovery of rich minerals across the island but mostly huge silver deposits and some even rarer metals. But, the Wildhammer represent only a portion of the island's population, and others may still be discovered.
When the Cataclysm hit the island and destroyed about 40% of its landmass, it took deposits of silver with it and the elements were in uproar, shaking the island to its core. Having no ore to mine, the economy spiralled downwards and with the war against the Twilight's Hammer also on their doorstep, there was naught but turmoil. Even now, remnants of the Undead roam in the very far reaches of the island, although not as dominantly as they used to. Other threats commonly found on the island are lesser evil like Gnolls, Ogres, bandits, Troggs and greater forces like unbound Elementals, malicious outsiders, mysterious occultists, enraged spirits of the past, and so on.
After the Wildhammers accepted the aid of a powerful group of High Elven mages, though wary of them at first, they were able to regain some of the economic stability and fight back some of the threats. The humans and dwarves thus expanded their home which continued to flourish into some of the towns known today which they now cohabit.
HUMANS AND HIGH ELVES
There is a small population of humans and high elves living in Willoughton Haven, the port town in Tairne. Following the invasion of Quel’thalas and Lordaeron during the Third War, some High Elven and Human fugitives sought refuge on the island’s shores before accepting the Wildhammer’s aid.
Most Humans have an industrial role, where they work jobs of labour and help with agriculture, as well as archaeology to research the island’s distant past. Some High Elves take on a more administrative role, the magically inclined are recruited in the local peacekeeping force and aid in the research of artefacts.
THE VANLOTH CORPS
The noble-born Vanloth family -- comprised of very few Quel'dorei magi -- was among one of the few to help the human refugees and Wildhammer alike regain stability through martial prowess and business trades. Its matriarch founded the Vanloth Corps, composed solely of casters - like Battle-mages and Sorcerers - and have inducted some of the local elves. They follow the law of the Alliance due to their diplomatic background and help ensure the safety of the local towns.
In return, given their military expertise and extension of their political influence to create strong ties and alliances, the elves have access to the Wildhammers’ shores to build ports for personal use and commerce supplies. Due to their strict method of enforcing the law, their presence is not always well received by those who prefer to run things more independently. Currently based in Willoughton Haven.
TAIRNE
Tàirneanachàirde, (or Tàirne for short,) is a village located within the region of Stormsfall - in an area dubbed ‘Storms End’, which is secluded from the greater region. The town is home to Dwarves and Humans alike, who hold a reverence over heroes and legends of the past. Leading the town, is Elder Ironfist - alongside the council of Lerion, a Devout of the Light and leader of the Lerion Militant. The Dwarves are particularly stubborn and protective, refusing to abandon their ancestral home even in the face of utter defeat. Allied fully now with the Pathfinders' Society, they provide a solid holding for the group to operate from within the region. Storms End itself is a land of many secrets and dense with history.
Dotted across the region, between the towns of Tàirne and Willoughton Haven, are statues and shrines to heroes of the past. Some as held in reverence, - those who achieved the most or aided the people the best are remembered in song and tale - their teachings used as lessons past down throughout the generations. Some are not held in the same light, be them lesser champions or genuine villains - no shrines or statues are commonly found detailing their journey or deeds. The dock of Willoughton Haven lies at the base of the valley, a locale populated mostly by Humans and High Elves, survivors of the cataclysm who migrated to the region in the shattering. Together, they conduct trade from the sea, and from the land with the hillbound Dwarves, adept in farming and animal-husbandry the people of Willoughton Haven are well-received within the region.
FORESTS OF KHIRN
The Forests of Khirn, aptly named the Witchwood by the residents of Duban Kibil is a vast forest stretching through the central peninsula of the isle and makes up around thirty percent of the Island. It connects most of the notable towns, villages and cities, making it one of the most traversed paths of the Island and inconveniently, one with the highest death toll. Most disturbances and occurances happen on the north-western side of the forest, closer toT Tairne and Highborm Pass while less happen by Boldihr, and in some cases (although extremely rare), the eastern side by Duban Kibil. There is little explanation as to why most incidents occur in one specific part of the region, at least - to the island folk there is not, but recent uncoverings and discovieres through the unveiling of long-lost paths; tablets and the history of the Island via the Pathfinders have offered new insight on these forests.
With the eastern flank of the island being mostly lost from the third war, or the resulting Cataclysm many years after; the breeding of many eldritch and unenchanting ilk have laid waste to these parts of the land, their hunger and instinct driving them to the adjacent side, to find life; whether to destroy, or investigate - it has lead them through the forests. The forests are home to plenty, mostly tribes of shamans that are, and have been living there for centuries, their pagan roots still running deep. There is more to learn from these people, and of the forests themselves - for there are still stories of creatures, considered legend skulking these woods. The most memorable is that of Byrpen, the King of the Forests, a half-man, half-bear creature said to once be a Dwarf who was too greedy, too ambitious and as a result, nature punished him with eternal hunger.
Stories like these, are what attract a Kaldorei community for many Night Elves have searched these forests - some never returned. One thing is clear: the forests do not take kindly to unwelcome guests.
